Watch Trends That Will Dominate the 2021

November 20, 2019

The watch industry is one that will never go out of business, it seems. The world of watches is one that’s incredibly conventional, and it changes and evolves constantly. Whether you’re looking at mens watches, or women’s, there are some trends that come and go, and others that just become settled and stay around for a good while.

That being said, there were quite a few trends that were around for a while that became somewhat of a highlight in 2020. Some of them stuck around, others faded away. But, what happens next year? What are some trends that are expected to dominate 2021? Let’s take a look.

It’s All About How You Wear It

At this point in time, nobody really needs a watch. We’ve got one on our phones, and they’re something that we always have with us. However, brands have realized this, and they’re getting smart around executing a watch that will get customers in their stores. One method of achieving that is creating a product that has a specific purpose.

Every brand is trying to create watches that meet the requirements of today’s users. A popular combination is a watch that’s both smart, and old-school, coming with a blend of both styles but with all the functionality you could ever need.

Retro Watches Are Coming Back

Yes, we spoke about the combination of retro and modern, but this is different. We’re talking about the miniaturized scale pattern that was extremely popular in the 80s and 90s, because that’s currently something that’s a backbone in the entire watch business. There are even some items that were popular between the 40s and 70s that are being taken into consideration. The point is, we have watches that have that vintage touch that’s hard to miss.

We’ve got brands such as Daniel Wellington, focusing on making watches that offer all the basics of a great timepiece, but in a retro design, that’s immediately recognizable. We’re talking minimalist design, leather straps, and little to no complications.

Blue Watches Are Going to Be A Big Hit

Saying that a particular color is going to be a big hit is difficult, but the blue watch pattern has been going pretty solid for a while. There are many watches that follow this pattern, and now we’re also seeing premium, luxury watch manufacturers that also do that same thing, and they’re going to pick up a lot of steam in the following year.

The Smoking Salmon is an Unexpected One

We bet you didn’t see this one coming. However, salmon-tinted dials were all over the place in Geneva last year, and they’re going to be just as popular, if not more, in the future. It’s a trend that’s, as some say, coordinating your timepiece with your canapes.

A Small Watch is Another One

Lately, we’re seeing quite a lot of people wearing massive, oversized watches that look out of proportion on their hands. Since watches are a fashion statement, that’s understandable. However, that’s about to change in 2021.

Small watches are coming back. Cartier is one of those big brands that is an indicator of this, and we’re talking about 38 to 39mm watches that are a tiny bit wider than the strap they come with. Of course, this isn’t very good news if you’re a person that has huge wrists, but they will be making a boom in 2021.

Do You Follow the Trends?

Without a doubt, the trends we spoke about above will all be extremely popular come 2021. However, that’s not to say they will fit everyone’s style, and they definitely won’t work well with everyone’s taste. Some might even go as far as to say the trends are unnecessary.

The thing is, a watch is a statement. You don’t have to wear what’s fashionable, and you certainly don’t have to change your watch according to what’s trendy at the moment. But If you do feel that way, if you feel like you do, choosing one of the aforementioned styles of watches is something you’ll want to do for 2021.
