Despite the hype, there are concerns over the practicability of the Keto diet, especially with kids. Can it prove useful to parents whose children are struggling with obesity? Is it safe for kids?

During ketosis, children might experience side effects such as constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, irritability, nausea, and vomiting.  These side effects occur as the body transitions from burning carbs to metabolizing fats, which creates a sense of starvation.

Furthermore, the Keto diet can affect focus and concentration, weaken bones, and cause kidney stones.

Appropriate Alternatives to the Keto Diet

Instead of putting your kids on a Keto lifestyle, here are some alternative methods to control their weight without causing further health complications.

Eating Balanced Diets

Ensure that your children take a balanced diet during every meal. Taking the correct amount of nutrients is vital for your kids’ growth and development, regardless of their weight situation.

Avoid Processed Foods

Train your children to avoid taking sugary processed foods such as soda, cookies, candy, and fast foods. Instead, advise them to eat fruits when they crave sweet foods.

Choose Nutritious Foods

Your children should only take snacks when they are hungry. Moreover, their meals should be healthy, such as peanut butter sandwiches, sliced veggies, unsweetened yogurt, and whole grain bread, and so on.

It is vital to educate your child about the benefits of taking the right foods that will support their development. This way, they will make the right choices, even when you are not around.
