Eight Famous Story of Akshaya Tritiya
First Story: This day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, protector of the earth. According to the belief of Hindu religion, lord Vishnu took birth as Shri Parashurama on earth. On this day, Vishnu as a Parashurama incarnated on earth six times, and that is why this day is also celebrated as the birthday of Parashurama. According to religious belief, Vishnuji lived on earth till Trita and Dwaparyuga (immortal). Parashurama was the son of Sage Jamadagnitha and Renuka, one of the Saptarishi. This Brahmin was born in the family and that’s why all Hindus celebrate Akshay III and Parashuram Jayanti with great pomp.
Second Story: According to the second belief, at the beginning of Treta Yuga, the river Ganga, considered to be the most sacred of the earth, came to earth from heaven on this day. The river Ganga brought Bhagiratha to earth. The sanctity of this day increases with the arrival of this holy river on the earth and that is why this day is included in the holy festival of Hindus. On this day, a person’s sins are destroyed by taking a dip in the holy Ganges river.
Third Story: This day is also considered to be the birthday of Annapurna, the mother goddess of kitchen and cooking (food). Mother Annapurna is also worshiped on the day of Akshaya Tritiya and mother is asked for a boon to keep the full bhandare. Worshiping Annapurna increases taste in the kitchen and food.
Fourth Story: This day has a different belief in the South Province. According to him, on this day, Kubera worshiped Shiva at a place called Shivapuram and pleased him. Pleased with the penance of Kubera, Shivji asked Kubera to ask for a bride. Kubera asked for a boon to reclaim his wealth and property from Laxmiji. Then Shankarji advised Kubera to worship Lakshmi. That is why from then on till Akshaya Tritiya, Lakshmi ji is worshiped. Lakshmi is Vishnupatni, that’s why Lord Vishnu is worshiped before Lakshmi ji is worshiped. Lakshmi Yantram is worshiped on this day in the south, in which there is a picture of Vishnu, Lakshmiji as well as Kubera.
Fifth Story: On the day of Akshaya Tritiya, Maharishi Ved Vyas started writing Mahabharata. On this day, Yudhishthira of Mahabharata received the “Akshaya Patra”. The specialty of this Akshaya Patra was that food never ran out of it. Through this vessel, Yudhishthira used to help the poor and hungry people of his state by giving them food. On the basis of this belief, the virtue of donations made on this day is also considered to be renewable, that is, the virtue received on this day never ends. It increases the fate of man for years.
Sixth Story: Another story of Akshaya Tritiya is prevalent in Mahabharata. Dushasan made Draupadi rip off on this day. In order to save Draupadi from this rip, Shri Krishna donated a never ending sari.
Seventh Story: Hindus have another interesting belief behind Akshaya Tritiya. When Shri Krishna was born on earth, then on the day of Akshaya Tritiya, his poor friend Sudama came to meet Krishna. Sudama had only four grains of rice to give to Krishna, the same Sudama offered at the feet of Krishna. But his friend and the knowing God of everyone’s heart understood everything and removing Sudama’s poverty, converted his hut into a palace and made him full of all facilities. Since then the importance of donations made on Akshaya Tritiya increased.
Eighth Story: Akshya tritiya very important for Jainism also. Rishabhdev gave up his kingdom text among his 101 sons and gave up the fascination of the world. He did penance without food and water for six months and then after that he sat down meditating in need of food. These Jain saints started waiting for food. People considered Rishabhdev to be a king and donated gold, silver, diamonds, jewels, elephants, horses, clothes and some even to his daughter to please his king. But Rishabhdev did not want all this, he was just in want of a mouthful of food. Therefore, Rishabhdev again went for a year of penance and he had to keep fast for a year. Then a year later there was King Shreyansh, who understood Rishabhdev’s mind with his “Purva-bhava-smaran” (power to know thoughts of past birth) and broke his fast and gave him sugarcane juice. This day was the day of Akshaya Tritiya. Realizing the importance of fasting of Tirthankara Rishabhdev from that day till today, Jain communities keep fast on the day of Akshaya Tritiya and end their fast with sugarcane juice. This practice is called “Parana”.

Akshaya Tritiya ke Upaye 2021
