With 347 million people in the world and 25.8 million people in the United States being affected by it, Diabetes is a disease that is being diagnosed in an exponentially increasing number of people every year. It is no wonder that the disease does not leave celebrities alone, with a lot of them falling prey to the disease every year. Whether it is Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes or Gestational Diabetes, a number of famous personalities have suffered from the disease. Here is a list of a few of them.

Halle BerryHalle Berry
This Oscar winning actress was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes when she was just 22 years old which was discovered after she went into a coma that lasted for a whole week. In the year 2007 Halle Berry announced that she got out of the disease by stopping insulin injections and was then diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. Medical experts however, said that this was not possible and it is likely that she has been misdiagnosed with Type I Diabetes and might have had Type II Diabetes all along
Salma HayekSalma Hayek
Mexican beauty Salma Hayek was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes, the kind of Diabetes that affects pregnant women and disappears after child birth. Salma Hayek was diagnosed with gestational diabetes in the year 2007 when she was pregnant with her daughter Valentina. People affected with this type of diabetes are at a higher risk of developing type II diabetes in the future or developing gestational diabetes in their future pregnancies.

Nick Jonas, a member of the Jonas brothers and former boyfriend of Miley Cyrus was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes at the age of 13. The kid’s choice award winner has campaigned for spreading awareness of Diabetes vigorously since then. He is a partner with a number of charities and the ambassador for Bayer Diabetes care.

The famous anchor and the talk show host Larry King has been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes in the year 1995. He came out in the open about it in the year 2009 to Diabetes Forecast. Ever since he had a heart surgery in the year 1987 Larry King was said to be watching his health and he cites his surprise as to why diabetes attacked him when he was following a healthy lifestyle.

Celebrity chef Paula Deen was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes quite some time back. She has only admitted to it in the January of 2012. However Paula Deen has a very positive outlook on Diabetes and she ‘does not think that it is a death sentence’. She also thinks that it is preventable when a healthy, non-sedentary life style is followed.
